Devotional: Recognize God’s Majesty

Are we “woke” to the presence of our amazing God?

Or are we so dependent upon our own strength that we fail to acknowledge His majesty all around us?

Even the Stars Declare His Majesty

Whether’s it’s the giggles of a baby, a hawk soaring through the air, or ocean waves tumbling toward the shore, God’s majesty is ever on display. As pastor and author John Piper notes, creation is “about the greatness of God, not the significance of man. God made man small and the universe big to say something about himself.”
To those choosing to believe that the highly ordered, intricately detailed system that sustains our lives created itself, the great C. S. Lewis would reply, “A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.”

“Bring me a worm that can comprehend a man, and then I will show you a man that can comprehend the Triune God.”  ~ John Wesley

The Bible tells us that God has the power to speak into existence anything He wants: cockroaches, koalas, blueberries, zebras, peonies, pine trees, sand. But of all that He has created, He considers humanity — you and me — to be the highlight. Because He wants a relationship with us. Why would God give a hoot about us?
In answering that question, we discover a love so wide and high and vast and deep that it should draw us to our knees in awe. I don’t know about you, but as this coronavirus forces the world to its knees, reminding me of how little control and power I actually have, I take comfort in the assurance of God’s majesty and love.
