Mrs. Clark’s 7th Grade Bible Class Discusses:
Changing Fact to Fiction
The Myths and Legends Myth
The Bible is pretty extraordinary and tells the best stories. The Bible states pure facts about God the Father and His Son Jesus who died on the cross for us.
Over the long years, people and scholars say, “The Bible is best understood as a compilation of religious folklore and legends.”
Some people have trouble comprehending the fact that miracles are true. For example: the two fish and the 5 loaves of bread that fed 5,000 people.
Stated in Don’t Check Your Brains at the Door, “the events in the Bible were not recorded in a corner.” Many people saw these events take place in the biblical world before us.
Peter answered the Myths and Legend Myth when he wrote, “We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were EYEWITNESSES of his MAJESTY.” 2 Peter 1:16
Madison, age 13
This myth is about people who believe that a good story is a legend. People all over the world are saying that this is fiction and is not fact. They think it could have happened, but don’t believe it and refuse to. This is false.
The Bible is not a legend; it is a true story about Jesus Christ God’s only Son that He sent to die on the cross, so that we may have eternal life.
The Bible also has very many eyewitnesses.
Lots of people saw these events happen right before their very own eyes. Peter said himself, “that we did not follow clearly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.”
What he is saying is true and reasonable. The Bible is not a legend, but a book about facts from a long time ago.
Daniel, age 13
“We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us…” 1 John 1:3 (New International Version)
Know what you believe…and why you believe it.
- Does it really matter what you believe, as long as you have faith?
- Are there errors in the Bible?
- Was Jesus just a good teacher?
- Can anyone prove His resurrection?
- What does that have to do with me?
