Using Your Assets, Business Interests, Stock and Securities for the Kingdom

Do you own stock, bonds, mutual funds or other market securities which have greatly appreciated in value since their purchase? Or how about land, rental property, real estate or a business?
These assets are usually subject to long term capital gains tax when sold. And that tax can range from 15 to 23.8 percent. Add state tax and depreciation recapture, and the rate could go as high as 30 to 40 percent.
But did you know that by donating an appreciated asset (all or part) to Josh McDowell Ministry prior to sale, you bypass the capital gains tax? And you still receive a tax deduction on the value of the donation. Funds can be distributed to the ministry immediately. Or you can set up a Donor Advised Fund and distribute the funds over time. It’s your choice.
Appreciated assets are expensive to sell. But because of the preferred tax treatment, they are ideal for charitable donations! This can dramatically reduce the cost of making a charitable gift or increase the amount you can afford to give.

How it works:
- Donate $20,000 or more in cash, stock or mutual funds to Josh McDowell Ministry through our partner organization, the Great Commission Foundation (a ministry of Cru/Campus Crusade for Christ).
- You (or someone of your choosing) receive a fixed income for life. The rate is based on the age of the income recipient.
- A portion of your income stream may even be tax free. You will receive a charitable deduction for your gift and the satisfaction of advancing the cause of Christ through Josh McDowell Ministry.

IRA Charitable Rollover
On December 18, 2015 the House and Senate approved the “Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015,” and the President signed the legislation into law. This retroactively reinstates the IRA Charitable Rollover provision originally enacted into law in 2006 for all of 2015 and remove any expiration date on the provision, thereby permanently extending the Rollover into the future.
The bill allows donors age 70½ and older to transfer up to $100,000 directly from their IRA to a qualified public charity. The transfer will be made free of federal income tax and the gift qualifies for the donor’s 2015 required minimum distribution (RMD).
Because it often takes IRA custodians several weeks to process rollover transactions, we recommend that you contact your custodian in plenty of time and notify him or her of your intentions if you’d like to make a rollover gift this year.
Here is a PDF form that, upon completion, can be delivered to your IRA custodian so he or she can prepare the check payable to Cru FBO Josh McDowell Ministry. We also recommend that you mail or fax a copy of this form to Cru so they can match it up with the check when it is received.
